The FoodSaver V4880 Vacuum Sealer is a fully automatic residential vacuum sealer and one of FoodSaver’s newer models. It’s very similar to the FoodSaver V4840 with a few minor variations. The major difference between the two units may be their designs, which are still very similar, and that the FoodSaver V4880 comes with a few extras such as a winestopper and FreshSaver container.
Also, the lid on the FoodSaver V4880 sits higher and the unit itself appear to be a little bigger. Everything else is about the same, however, this unit may be a better buy considering it does come with some extras and is priced about $30 less than the V4840.
The FoodSaver V4880 currently have better ratings than the FoodSaver V4840. This could be contributed to one unit, the FoodSaver unit having more reviews, or because improvements were made within the latest model. The V4880 model is the newer of the two units and because they were released so close together, perhaps consumers prefer to have the newest of the two vacuum sealers.
This FoodSaver vacuum sealer is different in design when compared to other FoodSaver units and is larger in size than most of the older models. It is an external vacuum sealer and operates with both bag rolls and pre-cut bags. In older units, users had more control over bag placement and movement. One recommended solution for getting more accurate seals was to make the bags longer. However, this brings me to the next frequently reported issue which was with the unit using up access bag packaging when sealing. Because of this, the FoodSaver V4880 may not be the best choice for users who does more than average sealing. A more cost effective solution would be a chamber vacuum sealer, which will initially cost more, but will cut long-term cost since the bags are a lot cheaper. There seems to be a technique to getting the unit to detect the bags. Placement is the key. This could be a pain especially when engaging in longer sealing periods. If you are considering upgrading to a newer unit and the FoodSaver V4880 is equipped with what you need, it may be worth giving the unit a try. However, if you lack patience and prefer to have more control, the V4880 may not be the right unit for you.
